Employees and officers found it very inconvenient to get treated and then file for reimbursement. The decision taken at the time was that corporators and employees would all be reimbursed after they paid the bills.
SVP STAMP FREE
As soon as SVP was set up, the question of free healthcare for corporators and other employees of AMC sprang up.
However, some members of the ruling BJP and officers as well as doctors reduced the status of VS and set up the AMC Medical Education Trust (AMCMET), and used crores of rupees to set up the modern SVP hospital.
The ruling BJP and the municipal commissioner had even extended a similar facility to journalists covering the AMC at that time. The cost was borne by a fund set up for corporators’ treatment at VS and bills used to be directly settled by the finance department of the AMC.Īpart from corporators, AMC employees and officers also used to get treatment in VS earlier, and only in special circumstances when treatment was not possible at VS that permission would be granted for using the services of private hospitals whose bills used to be reimbursed. They in fact got VIP treatment in VS, and even poor people used to get relief on bills on their recommendation.
The matter boils down to the perpetual tussle between the elected wing and officials in the AMC.īJP sources in the AMC said elected corporators and former corporators used to get cashless treatment at VS Hospital earlier. Strange as it may sound, but corporators in the AMC do not get cashless treatment in SVP hospital even though a notification granting such a facility was put out more than a year ago.
